Force-induced unfolding of a homopolymer on fractal lattice: exact results vs. mean field predictions

چکیده
We study the force-induced unfolding of a homopolymer on the three dimensional Sierpinski gasket. The polymer is subject to a contact energy between nearest neighbour sites not consecutive along the chain and to a stretching force. The hierarchical nature of the lattice we consider allows for an exact treatment which yields the phase diagram and the critical behaviour. We show that for this model mean field predictions are not correct, in particular in the exact phase diagram there is not a low temperature reentrance and we find that the force induced unfolding transition below the theta temperature is second order. 64.60.Cn, 87.15-v, 87.15.He, 05.10.Cc

A water-explicit lattice model of heat-, cold-, and pressure-induced protein unfolding.
We investigate the effect of temperature and pressure on polypeptide conformational stability using a two-dimensional square lattice model in which water is represented explicitly. The model captures many aspects of water thermodynamics, including the existence of density anomalies, and we consider here the simplest representation of a protein: a hydrophobic homopolymer. We show that an explici...
متن کاملInfluence of Induced Magnetic Field and Partial Slip on the Peristaltic Flow of a Couple Stress Fluid in an Asymmetric Channel
This paper describes the effects of induced magnetic field and partial slip on the peristaltic flow of a couple stress fluids in an asymmetric channel. The two dimensional equation of couple stress fluid are simplified by making the assumptions of long wave length and low Reynolds number. The exact solutions of reduced momentum equation and magnetic force function have been computed in wave...
متن کاملStretching single-domain proteins: phase diagram and kinetics of force-induced unfolding.
Single-molecule force spectroscopy reveals unfolding of domains in titin on stretching. We provide a theoretical framework for these experiments by computing the phase diagrams for force-induced unfolding of single-domain proteins using lattice models. The results show that two-state folders (at zero force) unravel cooperatively, whereas stretching of non-two-state folders occurs through interm...
متن کاملHow osmolytes influence hydrophobic polymer conformations: A unified view from experiment and theory.
It is currently the consensus belief that protective osmolytes such as trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) favor protein folding by being excluded from the vicinity of a protein, whereas denaturing osmolytes such as urea lead to protein unfolding by strongly binding to the surface. Despite there being consensus on how TMAO and urea affect proteins as a whole, very little is known as to their effects ...
متن کاملMagnetic Properties in a Spin-1 Random Transverse Ising Model on Square Lattice
In this paper we investigate the effect of a random transverse field, distributed according to a trimodal distribution, on the phase diagram and magnetic properties of a two-dimensional lattice (square with z=4), ferromagnetic Ising system consisting of magnetic atoms with spin-1. This study is done using the effectivefield theory (EFT) with correlations method. The equations are derived using...
